A PTZ camera for the conference room that zooms 12× to the whiteboard

The CAM-P runs on one PoE+ cable and stores presets for the lectern and the board. The CAM-4W is a 90° 4K USB camera for desks and huddle rooms. Both are tested on your platform before they leave Austin.

CAM-P PTZ camera for medium rooms, boardrooms and training rooms

A pan-tilt-zoom head on a square base, with 12× optical zoom. Optical matters. Digital zoom crops the sensor and the picture goes soft past 2×. At 12× optical, a whiteboard at the far end of an 8 m room is legible to the people on the call, which is the whole reason a training room buys one.

Power and control run on a single PoE+ cable (802.3at), so there is no power brick behind the display and no second cable run. We store two presets on the bench before it ships: one framed on the lectern, one on the whiteboard. A third, the whole table, is the home position. The controller on the table calls them up with one press.

Where it goes wrong: a PoE switch that is already near its power budget. A PTZ head draws hardest when it moves, and a switch that shares the budget with two ceiling tiles can brown out mid-pan. We check the switch model on the survey.

It is not for a four-seat room. A PTZ in a huddle room is a $1,400 camera doing what a $180 one does, and the motor noise is audible at that distance.

CAM-4W Wide 4K USB camera for desks and two-seat huddles

A small rectangular 4K camera with a 90° field of view, a clip for the top of a monitor and a physical sliding shutter. Plug it into USB and every meeting app sees it. No driver.

It suits a remote worker, a hot desk, or a two-person phone booth. At 90° it frames one or two people at arm's length without the fish-bowl look of a wider lens. The shutter is a real piece of plastic over the glass, not a software toggle, and people who work from a bedroom tend to care about that.

We do not sell it for boardrooms. Ask and we will tell you why: at 5 m the people at the end of the table are a few dozen pixels wide, and a webcam microphone hears the air conditioning before it hears them.

What 90° and 120° actually cover

Drawn from the stated figures: 90° on the CAM-4W, 120° on the VB-C bar. Covered width is 2 × distance × tan(half the angle).

Top-down view of a 90 degree and a 120 degree field of view From one lens position, the 120 degree cone reaches both side walls of a 4.4 metre wide room at about 1.3 metres, the 90 degree cone at about 2.2 metres. 90° · CAM-4W 120° · VB-C walls reached at 1.3 m walls reached at 2.2 m lens
Room drawn 4.4 m wide, 1 m = 100 units. The wider lens fills the room sooner, which is why the bar catches people seated beside the display and the webcam does not.
Width covered at 1, 2 and 3 metres for each field of view At 1 metre, 90 degrees covers 2.0 metres and 120 degrees covers 3.5 metres. At 2 metres, 4.0 and 6.9 metres. At 3 metres, 6.0 and 10.4 metres. 1 m 2.0 m 3.5 m 2 m 4.0 m 6.9 m 3 m 6.0 m 10.4 m 90° 120°
Distance from the lens on the left, covered width on the bars, 1 m = 36 units. A 2-seat booth at 1 m needs no more than 90°.

Wider is not always better. A 120° lens at a desk shows the whole room behind you and bends the edges of the frame. A 90° lens in a six-seat room crops off whoever sits beside the display. Match the angle to the distance from the lens to the nearest seat, and the PTZ handles everything past that by zooming rather than widening.

Camera questions we answer weekly

PTZ or a video bar for a 10-seat room?

A VB-W bar if the room is under about 6 m and nobody presents from a lectern. A CAM-P if there is a lectern, a whiteboard, or the far seats are past 7 m.

Does the CAM-P need a separate microphone?

Yes. It is a camera only. Pair it with ceiling tiles or take the whole KIT-B, where the DSP ties them together.

Can the CAM-4W run Teams Rooms?

It works with any app on a laptop. For a dedicated room we would rather fit a bar or the KIT-H, which carries microphones and a controller.
