VB-C Compact video bar for huddle and small rooms

One 4K camera with a 120° field of view, six beamforming microphones and a pair of speakers behind a woven grille, in a bar about 45 cm long. It plugs into a room PC or a laptop over USB, or runs as the camera and audio half of a KIT-H huddle kit.

It is the right bar for a room up to 4 × 5 m with drywall and four to six chairs. The 120° lens catches the people seated at the near corners of the table, which a 90° webcam crops off. Past 5 m deep the far seats get small and quiet, and that is the point to look at the VB-W instead.

Who it does not suit: rooms with a glass wall and a table longer than about 3.5 m. The microphones hear the glass. Add an SP-C ceiling tile or move up a size.

VB-W Wide video bar for 5 to 12 seats

Two cameras in a bar about 90 cm long, with a grey fabric front. One lens holds the whole table. The second zooms in on the speaker, and the bar's auto-framing cuts between them so the far end sees a face rather than a room. That matters most in long rooms, where a single wide lens turns the people at the end of the table into thumbnails.

Use it for tables of five to twelve. It is the bar we fit most often in medium rooms, usually with one ceiling tile over the far half of the table. On its own it covers the camera fully and the audio well up to about 6 m. Beyond that the microphones are working too hard.

Auto-framing can be switched off. Some boards prefer a fixed wide shot for the whole meeting, and we set that on the bench if you say so.

Which bar for which room

Length is measured from the display wall to the back of the furthest chair. Walls change the answer more than seats do.

1,150 mmLens height off the finished floor

We mount the camera at eye height on the display, 1,150 mm off the floor. Above that, everyone looks like they are being filmed from a ladder.

That height is a seated adult's eye line. It usually means the bar goes under the display, and the display goes up a little to make room. Bars mounted on top of a 75-inch panel end up near 1,900 mm and look down on the table.

Mounting heights and the three mistakes we fix most

Bar on top of a tall display. Fine for a standing huddle, poor for a seated room. If the panel cannot drop, tilt the bar down 5 to 8°, which is the limit before the top of heads gets cut.

Display on a trolley in a room that has a wall. The bar wobbles every time someone touches the screen and the auto-framing chases the motion. Wall mount it.

Bar centred on a display that is not centred on the table. The camera centres on the table, not the wall. We measure the table axis on the survey.

Questions about the bars

Will a video bar work without a room PC?

Yes. Both bars work as USB devices with any laptop, which is the bring-your-own-device setup. A room PC or a room kit adds one-touch join and a controller on the table.

Can we put a VB-C in a 7 m room if we add a tile?

The tile fixes the audio. The camera is still a single lens trying to make faces 7 m away readable. We will tell you that before you spend $1,100 on it.

Do you supply the display?

On request, priced separately. The interactive displays are listed with their own bands, and the estimator adds $2,800 to $4,200 per display.
